Sania Mirza critical of media's approach to her tax evasion notice
Sania Mirza launched a scathing attack on Indian media, saying a section of it was more interested in writing negative news rather than reporting on her on-court progress. A day after clarifying the tax evasion allegations, the women's doubles world No 1 took to Twitter to express her anger.
On Feb 9, the Hyderabad service tax department issued Mirza a notice over alleged tax evasion/non-payment and ordered her to answer the summons either in person or through an authorized agent on Feb 16. Mirza's accountant appeared for her to clarify the issue.
"Standing ovation to our amazing certain sections of media who haven't bothered to write or report about me being in another semifinal of a tournament in Qatar, but heyyy there are 100 articles about 'tax evasion' which most of them don't even understand properly," Sania tweeted through her official Twitter account.
"As to what's going on I think is pretty clear negative news sells a lot more than positive news or achievements I guess!!" she added.

The second-seeded Indo-Czech pair of Mirza and Barbora Strycova lost to Katarina Srebotnik and Abigail Spears in three sets in the semifinals of the Qatar Open.
