Roger Federer emotionally acknowledges his wife’s part in his success
Roger Federer might have fans in every part of the world, but he believes that there is none bigger than his wife Mirka Federer. Acknowledging Mirka's contribution throughout his career, the Swiss legend, who won his 18th Grand Slam title on Sunday, said, “she was there when I had no titles”.
After beating his rival Rafael Nadal in the final at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, Roger Federer paid an emotional tribute to his wife Mirka Federer.
"She was there when I had no titles and she's still here 89 titles later.
"She had a big part to play in it – she knows it, I know it, everybody knows it," the 35-year-old said, reported India Times.
Mirka Federer, previously known as Miroslava Vavrinec, was also a professional tennis player and had reached the No.76 in the WTA rankings back in 2001 before a recurring foot injury ended her career in 2002. Tennis, however, introduced her to Roger Federer during the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and the duo has been inseparable since then.
Although her personal dreams of making it big in the world of tennis had ended, Mirka became Federer’s biggest supporter, motivator, and strength. Following her retirement, Mirka took on the role of Federer's public relations manager, traveling with him on tour. The duo, who married in 2009, have been blessed with four children – two sets of twins – and for Federer, everything else can take a backseat for his family.
