Federer becomes 3rd player in history to hit 10,000 career aces
In the first set of his first-round match of the 2017 Wimbledon, Roger Federer touched a historic milestone when he hit the 10,000th ace of his career. The 35-year-old enter the second round when his Ukrainian opponent Alexandr Dolgopolov retired from the game in the second set because of an injury.
Federer started his quest for an eighth Wimbledon title yesterday against Alexandr Dolgopolov where he comfortably entered the next round. After 44 minutes, Dolgopolov stopped the game because of an ankle injury. The Swiss master led 6-3, 3-0 before the Ukranian quit the game.
In the course of the match, Federer not only bagged his record-breaking 85th match win but he also hit his 10,000th career ace. The tennis legend achieved this feat against Dolgopolov and joined an elite club along with Goran Ivanisevic and Ivo Karlovic. The Swiss became only the third man since 1991 to reach this landmark.
Roger Federer made a terrific comeback to the court after a career-threatening knee injury to win the Australian Open in January this year and followed it with title wins at Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open. Federer’s form since his return has not only vindicated his decision to skip the clay-court season, but also made him the favorite to win Wimbledon this year.
