Roger Federer and I are better prepared to compete for World No.1 spot, says Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have been in impeccable form this season with the former winning his 10th French Open title while the latter bagging two Grand Slam title to take his tally to 19. 

Meanwhile, World No. 1 Andy Murray's season has been marred with bad form and injuries and he has struggled to win at major events. Following his title win at Wimbledon, Federer jumped up to the number 3 spot cutting Murray's lead to 1000 points. On the other hand, Nadal's strong season has reduced the point deficit between him and Murray to less than 300.

However, Murray still has 5,460 points left to play for with the US Open commencing in August. 

Nadal revealed he is focused on his own game rather than competing for the rankings while admitting that it was him and Federer who are well prepared to compete for it.

"The truth is, I always follow my own path. It's true that we [Roger and I] are better prepared to compete for nice things at the end of the year but it depends on what we're able to do from now until the end of the year. We'll have to wait and see," Nadal was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

“The person who will be able to keep his high level for a longer period of time will have more options to fight for the world No 1 ranking. But the same can be said of Murray... and many others who are up there. Maybe they haven't had the best six months this year but they are also candidates," Nadal added.
