WATCH | Dominic Thiem and Max Marterer's epic rally

Dominic Thiem and Maximilian Marterer enthralled the audience with their brilliant plays for a point during their third game in the second set. Thiem led the match with a set while the game was tied at 1-1 in the second.

Marterer led the game 40-15 until the Austrian scripted a brilliant comeback that resulted in a highlight reel moment of the match. Thiem started the proceedings with a strong serve which the German returned with ease and also forced the Austrian to cover a lot of ground to his left which he did but Thiem's shot looked to put Marterer in a commanding position who then shot the ball to the right forcing Thiem to change his direction.

The 23-year old Austrian accomplished the task with ease, however, Marterer was already seen running towards the net in a bid to catch the ball on the full. The German hit the ball once again to Thiem's left and it looked as if the Austrian lost the point and the game but Thiem made his ground in time and returned the ball back while sliding on the grass. Now the tables had turned and the German was now looking to get to the ball which was dropped to his left and Marterer somehow managed to shot the ball back into Thiem's half while he tumbled on the ground.

The game was done or so everyone thought when Thiem hit the ball straight and seemed likely to win the point. However, Marterer picked himself up from the ground sprinted towards the ball and returned it yet again with an unusual flick but the Austrian pulled out a drop shot and this time ended the game as the ball bounced twice before Marterer could get to it.
