Venus Williams accused in fatal car crash

According to a report published in Reuters, Venus Williams was accused of failing to yield the right of way to another driver at a four-way intersection near her home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The report stated that the other driver Linda Barson saw Williams' vehicle "cut across in front" of her when she was trying to cross the intersection on a green light and then "was unable to avoid crashing into" her vehicle.

Another eyewitness confirmed the incident to the police. Williams, on the other hand, told police that she entered the intersection on a green light and then waited at the medium for the traffic to clear before proceeding without noticing Barson's vehicle.

"The driver of (Williams' car) is at fault for violating the right of way of", the investigating officer concluded.

Barson's co-passenger, identified in the report as Jerome Barson, 78, was taken to a Florida trauma centre following the accident and died there 13 days later, according to the Palm Beach County medical examiner.

The police report further highlighted that Williams was driving at a speed of 8mph during the time of impact and that she was not under the influence of any substance or distracted during the incident.

Malcolm Cunningham, Williams' attorney, dodged clarifying the allegations and cited that the World No. 11 was not issued "any citations or traffic violations."

Cunningham further added that there was no indication in the report that would jeopardize Williams' participation in Wimbledon as she suffered no injury during the process.
