Sania Mirza made a winning start at the Miami Open after the Indian ace and Barbora Strycova beat Demi Schuurs and Renata Voracova 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Mirza and her Czech partner won the first set easily but were pushed to the limit in the second before winning the tie-breaker.

Schuurs and Voracova went up a break in the opening set but Mirza and partner bounced back to clinch the set easily. However, the contest turned intense in the latter half of the second set as Schuurs and Varacova bounced back to level at 5-5 and went up 6-5 before Mirza and Strycova levelled at 6-all and closed out the tie-break.

The week saw favourites advance to the third round in singles with Roger Federer and his Swiss counterpart Stan Wawrinka easing past their respective opponents. Federer, however, faces a tough challenge in Del Porto next. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal went past Israeli Dudi Sela in straight sets in 81 minutes.
