WATCH : Dominic Thiem's sizzling tweener against Bernard Tomic
Dominic Thiem brushed aside Australian Bernard Tomic 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 on Sunday to ease into the second round of the French Open. Austria's Thiem put up a spectacular display in a rally that Tomic looked to be in control of, with the highpoint being a tweener that left the crowd stunned.
Sixth-seeded Thiem, a semi-finalist here last year, is the only player to beat Rafael Nadal on a clay court this season and is seen as a title contender at the Roland Garros.
Thiem dismantled Tomic after he won a brilliant rally in the fifth game of the third set. Tomic began the game with a powerful serve that put Thiem on the backfoot. Tomic dropped the ball near after Thiem returned his shot, forcing the Austrian to cover a good amount of ground to make it to the ball.
Thiem scrambled to return and Tomic lobbed the ball to the back court for what looked to be the first points of the game but Thiem, who was behind the ball, pulled out a tweener to the astonishment of the crowd. Thereon, the Austrian regained control of the match.
