Milos Raonic, who has not played since his loss at Madrid Open, has withdrawn himself from the French Open due to a knee injury and is now targeting a return when the grasscourt season arrives. The world number 28 made the announcement of ruling himself out of the grand slam on Sunday.

Milos Raonic has not had quite a good start to the season this year after his knee injury reoccurred at the Madrid Open earlier this year. Raonic played his last competitive match against Denis Shapvalov in the round of 16 at the Madrid Open.

The former World No.3 took to Twitter to make an announcement on Sunday that he has withdrawn himself from the Roland Garros. In the post, he insisted on working hard to return to his best and thanked his fans for the support. He hinted that he might be making his return during the grasscourt season.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am withdrawing from Roland Garros. I have many great memories there, but I know I need to continue working hard to put myself in the best position when I step out on the court,” Raonic posted on Twitter.

“Thank you all for your support and see you soon on the grass,” the 27-year-old added.

Raonic, a French Open quarter-finalist in 2014, has been struggling with the injury since the last season. The injury forced him to stay out of the court for the back end of the season. He made a disappointing return in the Australian Open earlier this year, where he exited in the first round.

The French Open begins on May 27.
