Leander Paes and Miguel Reyes-Varela seal title at Santo Domingo Open

Tennis ace Leander Paes and partner Miguel Reyes-Varela defeated Ariel Behar and Roberto Quiroz 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the final of the Santo Domingo Trophy to clinch the Challenger title. This was Paes’ second challenger title of the season having previously won the Newport Beach event in January.

Paes along with Mexican partner, Miguel Reyes-Varela, bagged the top prize at the recently concluded Santo Domingo Open Trophy. Leander and Miguel beat South American duo of Ariel Behar and Roberto Quiroz by a scoreline of 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the final to clinch the coveted title.

The second-seeded Indo-Mexican pair, who were involved in their second consecutive final, came from behind to beat Behar and in the summit clash, which went on for an hour and 26 minutes. Paes, who was ranked 69 in the ATP rankings, added another 110 ranking points to his kitty and shared a tournament prize of $7750 with his Mexican partner. Last week, the 45-year-old and Miguel finished as runners-up at Monterrey Challenger to compatriot Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Marcelo Arevalo.

The Indian ace also ended as a runner-up in Chicago on the ATP Challenger circuit, after he earlier won the Newport Beach event in January. Paes also reached the final of Winston-Salem Open and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on the ATP World Tour, in which he finished as a runner-up with Jamie Cerretani on both occasions.
