Rohan Bopanna and Saketh Myneni’s doubles defeat led to India's downfall as they lost 3-0 to Serbia at the Davis Cup in Kraljevo. However, according to the new rules, India still has another opportunity to make it to the Davis Cup finals provided that they compete in a qualifying event in Febuary.

Rohan Bopanna and Saketh Myneni lost the doubles tie to Nikola Milojevic and Danilo Petrovic by a score of 6-7(5), 2-6, 6-7(4). This was the most crucial match for India because they had already lost a singles match and needed a win to stay alive in the tournament. However, they lost the match resulting to which Serbia won 3-0 in the Davis World Group Play-offs in Kraljevo. This is India's third loss in a row to Serbia.

India lost to a team which didn't even have its top players. US Open winner, Novak Djokovic did not want to play this tournament while Filip Krajinovic got off due to an injury.

However, it's not the end of the world for India, because according to the new rules they still can enter the Davis Cup finals without going back to Asia/Oceania Group. India will compete in a 24-team qualifying event (home and away format) in February, 2019 to qualify for the 18-team Davis Cup Finals. The 12 winners will qualify while four semi-finalists from the 2018 season will get direct entry.
