Leander Paes and Marcus Daniell finish second in Ilkley Challenger men’s doubles

Leander Paes and his men’s doubles partner Marcus Daniell lost the final of the Ilkley Challenger tennis tournament and had to settle with the runner’s up Trophy. The Indo-Kiwi pair was beaten by Santiago Gonzalez and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in straight sets in the summit clash on Sunday.

Paes, and his partner from New Zealand Marcus Daniell, had a great run in the tournament till the final on Sunday in the Challenger tennis tournament at Ilkley, England. However, in the summit clash, the duo was beaten by Pakistan’s Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. 

Paes and Daniell were broken in the fourth game of the first set by the top seed pair while in the second set, they had a terrible start as they were broken in the first game itself and eventually lost the final 6-3, 6-4.

Earlier in the €137,560 Challenger tournament, which was played on grass, second seed pair of Paes and Daniell had defeated the all Indian pair of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja 6-3, 7-6(4) in the doubles semi-finals on Saturday. With this result, Paes has lost two finals in the season so far. He was also defeated in the Da Nang Tennis Open in Vietnam earlier this season.
