Sushil Kumar qualifies for 2018 Commonwealth games in Gold Coast, Australia.

After missing out on Rio 2016 where he was snubbed by the Wrestling Federation of India and the Delhi High Court amidst a shroud of controversy, India’s star wrestler Sushil Kumar has continued his fairytale return to the mat. The 34-year-old wrestler proved his doubters wrong on Friday showing that class is permanent, as he beat Jitender Kumar in the final round of qualification in the 74 kg category. 

Out of action since Glasgow 2014, many had anticipated Kumar’s return to the game. But, what started out as a mere injury that prevented him from taking part in the 2015 selection trials for the World Championships ended up spoiling his qualification chances for Rio 2016 as well, keeping him away from the game for almost three years.

However, Sushil kept confidence in his abilities and continued to train hard to work his way back into the limelight. It finally paid off when he made his first major return to the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship held in Johannesburg where he bagged a gold medal.

The experienced Sushil Kumar, who recently broke the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) auction record after Delhi Sultans shelled out Rs. 55 Lakh for his services is sure to be at his peak when he heads to Gold Coast, Australia, between 4th and 15th April 2018.
