Anshu Malik clinches bronze at Junior World Wrestling Championships

Young Indian wrestler Anshu Malik has bagged a bronze medal at the ongoing Junior Wrestling World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia by defeating Russia's Alina Kazymova 11-5 in the bronze medal bout of 59kg category. Another Indian wrestler Anju lost her bronze medal match against Russia's Verbina.

Anshu was trailing in the first period by 0-4 points but did well to come from behind and took a lead of 5-4 against the Russian wrestler. She continuously maintained the dominance in the entire bout and eventually won the match by 11-5.

Earlier in the championships, Anshu had lost to Sae Nanjo of Japan via technical superiority in the semi-final bout. The 19-year-old wrestler is a former world and Asian champion in the cadet division. She dominated against Turkey's Sule Kabak (10-0) and Andribeth Belliard of Puerto Rico (6-0) in earlier bouts.

Meanwhile, another Indian female wrestler Anju lost to Verbina from Russia in women's 55kg category via technical superiority.

India has another chance of winning a medal in the championship with Mansi scheduled to play the 57kg semi-final bout. She won her first two bouts via technical superiority but lost to Japan's Andoriahanako Sawa in the semi-final.

The other Indians participating in the championships - Swati Shinde, Radhika, Jaspreet Kaur and Sonika Hooda failed to make it to the semifinals of their respective categories.
