Deepak Punia discharged from hospital, advised to maintain home quarantine

After several action-less months owing to the pandemic outbreak, the men wrestlers had finally assembled at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Sonepat for the national camp, with the eves set for the same in Lucknow. While the camp in the national capital region has already started last Tuesday, three of the wrestlers – Tokyo bound Bajrang Punia, Navin and Krishan had all tested positive for the virus. All of them were a part of the training camp and were undergoing the mandatory quarantine period.

The infected wrestlers were moved to the SAI empanelled hospital as a precautionary measure. As per the latest report, Deepak Punia has been released from the hospital and has been advised him home quarantine as the wrestler is stable and asymptomatic.

“Wrestler Deepak Punia tested Covid positive during the test given by SAI upon arrival at the National Camp in Sonepat and was in the hospital. Now he’s been advised home quarantine by doctors as he’s stable & asymptomatic. His homestay is approved by District COVID Nodal Officer,” Tweeted SAI.

Meanwhile, the women’s camp, which was supposed to start simultaneously, on September 1, has been postponed further owing to the surge in cases around Lucknow. Furthermore, Vinesh Phogat, who had also tested positive the coronavirus, has fully recovered but is currently in home isolation as a precautionary measure.
