Ace Indian archer Deepika Kumari managed to finish fourth in the test event qualification round of the Tokyo Olympics as she shot 668 out of a possible 720 points, thus qualifying for the knock-out round. Her compatriot, Atanu Das didn’t have a similar game as he finished 19th in men’s section.

The former world number woman archer did well at the 72-arrow 70-metre round to qualify for the knockouts, which consequently helped India to get the fourth rank in the tournament’s mixed pair event at the Yumenoshima Archery Field, which is seeing its first international competition.

The Indian duo of Kumari and Das would be taking on 13th ranked Daniel Felipe Pineda and Ana Maria Rendon of Colombia in the first round of the 16-team draw. The remaining Indian participants in the doubles event have been 11th and 48th Laishram Bombayla Devi and Komalika Bari in the women’s section, and Pravin Jadhav (30th) and Tarundeep Rai (52nd) in the men’s section.

131 athletes from 29 countries are participating in the test event closed for spectators and it would not have any team competitions. It is being held at the same venue, which would host the summer for the Olympics and Paralympic Games. The main aim of this has been to get a proper experience for the Tokyo Olympics athletes, coaches, and staff before next year.
