Archery World Championships | India finish 11th in qualification round

Tarundeep Rai managed to score 676 total points in the qualifications of the World Championships and was the best among all the Indian archers with an 11th-place finish. Pravin Jadhav was the second Indian on the list with a total of 673 points and stood at the 31st place. However, the biggest disappointment on the day for India was the failure of top-ranked archer Atanu Das. He managed to end the qualifying round at the 50th place as he shot 666.

India as a team failed to get into the top eight and secure a bye into the round of 16. India fell short of Great Britain, which got a bye, by only three points. The Indian archers will now have to win against Norway and Canada in the next two matches to confirm their place in the Olympics in the men’s recurve category. 

“We are confident of securing an Olympic berth. I think the scores are good enough. Results of elimination round matches are completely different than that of qualifications,” Rai was quoted as saying by PTI.

“We have a strong team of youth and experience. Das is experienced while Pravin is young and in fine form. I’m also giving my best we will all fight to get an Olympic berth.”
