Archery Association of India’s elections likely to be held on June 9
The Archery Association of India (AAI)’s elections are likely to be held on June 9 after Sunil Sharma decided to withdraw his May 26 poll notice. Secretary Maha Singh met the Supreme Court-appointed CoA and has issued a fresh notification for the elections to be held in Chandigarh.
The controversies surrounding the elections in the AAI is not getting over anytime soon. Acting president of the association Sunil Sharma has now withdrawn his poll notice which was for May 26 and now secretary Maha Singh has notified as June 9 as the next date for the elections.
“Pursuant to the judgment passed by the Supreme Court of India dated May 10, the elections of office bearers of the AAI, which were announced to be conducted on May 26 in New Delhi, would be rescheduled. Revised election notification will be issued soon,” Sharma said in his letter to the state associations, as reported by PTI.
Maha Singh had earlier termed the election notice sent by Sharma, who is believed to be a part of the faction led by V. K. Malhotra, as illegal and contempt of court. After which, he had a meeting with five of the 10-member CoA and the fresh election notification has been issued now.
“The notice was after all ‘illegal and unauthorised’. He had to withdraw it. Moreover, he doesn’t have the powers to issue election notice. Polls will be conducted on June 9 as per our notice,” Maha Singh told PTI.
