Ranchi to hold 2017 Asian Athletics Championships

Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand, will host the 2017 Asian Athletics Championship. The decision was taken in the 83rd Council Meeting of the Asian Athletics Association (AAA), which is being held at Philippines.

This will be the third time the Championship will be hosted in India, after the games were held in Delhi (1989) and in Pune (2013).

While the schedule of the event is yet to be announced, it is likely to be played at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium. The 35,000 capacity stadium also hosted the opening and closing ceremony the 2011 national games.

AAA also announced that Doha, will host the 2019 Asian Athletics Championship.
