Khelo India School Games : Haryana and Maharashtra grab top two spots in medal tally

Adding two gold medals to their overnight tally from Judo, Haryana hold their top position in the medal table of the first Khelo India School Games on Wednesday. Maharashtra earned three gold medals which helped them to move into the second place followed by Delhi and Karnataka.

Haryana showed their dominance in the medal tally of the tournament with 57 medals including 22 gold and 16 silver. On Tuesday, Priya won in girls 40kg and Harish won in boys 50kg category of Judo. Nitesh Kumar managed a medal but he won a bronze in boys 55kg for the same sport.

Maharashtra spotted in second place as they won three gold out of which two came in weightlifting as Trupti Mane won in girls 58kg and Jeremy Lalrinnunga, from Mizoram, but staying in the Army Institute in Pune won in boys 62kg. Maharashtra got their third gold from judoka where Snehal Khaware won in 48kg for girls.

Maharashtra and Delhi had 19 golds but the difference of medals between the two states is three which forced Delhi to move at No. 3.

On Day 7 of the Khelo India, Manipur churned out three gold and two silver. Pothshangbam Umeshwori Devi won the Girls 63 kg and Lamabam Nilam Devi grabbed the top spot in 53 kg weightlifting competition which gave two golds. Judo player Thangjam Tababi Devi in 44kg won the third gold and the state won their two silver in the same event.

Punjab team showed their dominance on the football ground as they maintained their unbeaten run with a solid performance against Haryana. They registered a 3-1 victory to book their place in the final. But Haryana girls keep alive the hope in the game as they won the first semi-final against West Bengal by 8-0.
