Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh has finished eighth in his maiden appearance at the prestigious Diamond League athletics competition in Oslo, Norway.  With his best effort of 80.87 in the javelin throw event, the Indian could manage only an eighth position in the competition.

In his first ever Diamond League event, Shivpal Singh managed to throw only 80.87m and finished eighth out of nine athletes. He has a personal best of 86.23m and at the Asian Athletics Championships, he had won a silver medal for the country earlier this year.

None of the athletes could do well than their personal bests in the event and Germany’s Johannes Vetter, the current World Champion claimed the gold medal. He threw 85.27m to win the event in Norway. Magnus Kirt of Estonia grabbed the silver medal with 84.74m while Asian record holder Cheng Chao-Tsun of Chinese Taipei finished third with 84.30m.

Olympic champion and star athlete from Germany Thomas Rohler could finish only sixth with 82.63m, which is much below his usual standards.
