According to a report on Deccan Herald, Indian athlete Gomathi Marimuthu has tested positive for using a banned substance. The DH report has further added that 30-year-old Marimuthu is expected not to travel to Spala in Poland where the Indian athletes are now training after the positive result.

Gomathi Marimuthu had made India proud with her excellent achievement at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships in Doha last month where she had clinched a gold medal for the country. She had topped the 800 metre race in Qatar’s capital as she clocked a timing of 2:02:70s at the continental event. With this show, she also broke her personal best of 2:03:21 which was recorded during Federation Cup earlier this year.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the athlete is tested positive for using a prohibited substance and will be charged for doping. However, the report on DH had no source of any kind of confirmation regarding the news and also had no mention regarding the name of the banned substance that she was tested positive for.

On the other hand, the president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) Adille Sumariwalla has told the newspaper that he has “no official information” regarding Marimuthu and doping.

The report also read that the 30-year-old athlete is expected not to join other Indian athletes in Poland for training as it was scheduled earlier.
