Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu have advanced to the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2018 BWF China Open after comprehensive wins in their respective games. Srikanth defeated Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto 10-21, 21-9, 21-9 while Sindhu got the better of Busanan Ongbamrungphan by a score 21-12, 21-15

Kidambi Srikanth continued his fine display at the ongoing BWF China Open last night after he defeated Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in three-game thriller. After initially losing the opening game 10-21, Srikanth bounced back in epic fashion to knock out his Indonesian counterpart in consecutive games of 21-9, 21-9 and secured a spot in the quarters. Srikanth, who is chasing his first title this year, will go up against the winner of the match between fourth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei and Daren Liew of Malaysia.

In the women’s singles, former world number one PV Sindhu probably also advanced to the quarter-finals with a straight games win over Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand in round two. The Indian appeared to lose her concentration early on in the first game but kept her calm to eventually win the match by a comfortable scoreline of 21-12, 21-15 in a match that lasted just 37 minutes. Sindhu will now face her French Open rival He Bingjiao or Canada’s Michelle Li.

In the men’s doubles, CWG silver medalists, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, will take on Indonesia’s Wahyu Pangkaryanira and Ade Yusuf Santoso in the second round later in the day.
