Kuhoo Garg and Dhruv Rawat claim Egypt International mixed doubles title

Indian mixed doubles badminton pair of Kuhoo Garg and Dhruv Rawat won the all Indian final by straight games on Sunday to lift the Egypt International mixed doubles title. They got the better of Utkarsh Arora and Karishma Wadkar in straight games 21-16, 22-20 in the summit clash.

Indian shuttlers Kuhoo Garg and Dhruv Rawat had a great time in the mixed doubles event of the Egypt International badminton tournament as they managed to beat their compatriots and win the title on Sunday in Cairo. The unseeded pair dominated the proceedings from the very beginning against third seeds Utkarsh Arora and Karishma Wadkar. 

After winning the first game 21-16, Garg and Rawat fought hard in the second game. Although the third-seeded pair tried hard to make a comeback into the game, their efforts were not enough as Garg and Rawat won the second by 22-20 and lift the title.

In the second round, the Indian pair had defeated second seeds Ahmed Salah and Hadia Hosny 21-16, 21-15 who were representing the host nation. In the semi-finals, Garg and Rawat lost the first game 16-21 but bounced back well to take the match by winning the next two games 21-16, 21-9 against Algeria’s Koceila Mammeri and Linda Mazri.

Garg had also made it to the finals of the women’s doubles alongside Sanyogita Ghorpade but she failed to win the title and lost the summit clash. The duo lost the match which went into the decider 16-21 21-19 19-21 to third seeds Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker.
