Syed Modi International 2022 | PV Sindhu to face Malvika Bansod in final, Mithun Manjunath loses
India's PV Sindhu moved into the finals of the Syed Modi International 2022 after her opponent retired from the semifinal match midway, on Saturday. Sindhu began the match strongly and took only 12 minutes to pocket the first game 21-11 in just 12 minutes against Russian Evgeniya Kosetskaya.
The world no.28 then conceded the match before the start of the second game, which meant that Sindhu had made it to the final of the event. This means that the Hyderabadi is a step closer to her first title since the World Championship victory in 2019.
In the final, she will be up against upcoming India player Malvika Bansod, who defeated Anupama Upadhyaya 19-21, 21-19, 21-7 in the other semi-finals. In the previous tournament, Bansod, 20, had beaten Saina Nehwal in straight games, which would have given her a lot of confidence.
Meanwhile, it was a heartbreak for the Indian fans in the men's singles as Mithun Manjunath lost to Arnaud Merkle of France 21-19, 17-21, 21-9 in an 84-minute-long contest.
It will be an all-Indian affair in the mixed doubles as seventh seeds Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto will take on T Hema Nagendra Babu and Srivedya Gurazada for the title.
In the women's doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Malaysia’s Valeree Siow and Low Yeen Yuan 17-21, 21-8, 21-16 in 63 minutes. They will face Malaysia's Anna Ching Yik Cheong and Teoh Mei Xing next.
