Indian boxing ace Vijender Singh debuted in the USA with a thumping win over local favourite Mike Snider as the 33-year-old finished the super middleweight eight-rounder in just four rounds. He would be eyeing more fights this year after signing up with Hall of Famer Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions.

Despite staying out of boxing for more than a year and coming at the back of a loss in the Indian general elections from the South Delhi seat, Vijender looked sharp as ever. The bout could prevail only four rounds as the Indian won owing to a TKO.

It was only the second minute of the fourth round when the Indian boxer cornered Snider with a plethora of blinding straight punches, which prompted the referee to stop the fight as Vijender got his eighth knockout win in all.

“It was excellent getting back in the ring after a long time off. It’s great to be here in the USA and to get the win. It was really exciting. I am really happy for my winning debut in USA. It took me about four rounds to get back in the swing of things. I expected it to take two or three rounds, but it took me four. I felt good,” said Vijender, reported PTI.

The veteran Snider did try his best with his arms all over that hardly had any force while Vijender looked like a man on a mission. The 38-year-old local favourite, whose overall record of was 13-5-3, hardly threatened Vijender, who would now be eyeing some fights after signing up with Top Rank.

“Top Rank has a bigger plan for me, and whatever they say is next, I’m fine with it,” Vijender said.
