Sinquefield Cup | Viswanathan Anand draws with Ding Liren to remain in joint lead

Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand played out yet another draw in the 2016 Sinquefield Cup on Monday against Chinese grand master Ding Liren to remain at the top of the standings. Apart from Anand, Wesley So, Levon Aronian, and Veselin Topalov are also on top with 2.5 points.

After a draw in his third-round against American chess grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, Viswanathan Anand’s defensive game against Ding Liren earned him yet another draw in the 2016 Sinquefield Cup, a part of the Grand Chess Tour in St. Louis USA. Ding Liren, who had three draws in his first three rounds, was aware of Anand’s tricks and made sure that the India had a hard time in the match. With Ding Liren matching him move for move, Anand settled for a draw to remain in the joint lead.

Apart from Anand, Wesley So, Levon Aronian, and Veselin Topalov are also on 2.5 points with five more rounds remaining in the tournament. Anand will next face Wesley So of United States in the Round 5 match today.
