An India Pakistan encounter at the World Cup is the definition of high octane, making it arguably the most pressure-enveloped clash in all of cricket. Such seemed to be the occasion in Colombo on Sunday that even the broadcasters crumbled, leading to Pakistan being incorrectly awarded the toss.

Pakistan won the toss at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday in their Womens World Cup round-robin encounter against India and chose to bowl first. For all practical purposes, that is how history would remember things unfolding, all because of a rare and perhaps unprecedented moment of miscommunication.  

As host, Women in Blue skipper Harmanpreet Kaur had the coin in her hand and she flipped it up in the air while her Pakistan counterpart Fatima Sana was asked to make a call. The young captain confidently echoed "tails" and in a bid to convey the call to the live audience, broadcaster Mel Jones repeated the same on her microphone -- except, she heard the call as "heads" and thus inadvertently ended up misinforming all listening. Even more surprisingly, match referee Shandre Fritz as well as Harmanpreet did not acknowledge the mistake or even seemed to realize it, and ended up allowing Sana to make her call for batting or bowling.
