Hockey | India moves up the ladder to 5th in latest FIH rankings

The Indian hockey team endured a memorable outing at this year's Champions Trophy in the Netherlands as they ended the competition as the runners up. PR Sreejesh & Co. were outplayed against the mighty Australians, who continue to lead the rankings table. Currently, Australia sit 23 points ahead of second-ranked Argentina and are followed by Belgium and Netherlands.

India lost to the Aussies in the finals of the Champions Trophy in a penalty shoot-out. The Aussies remained on top of the rankings table with 1906 points, while Argentina with a score of 1883 attained the second position in the FIH rankings. Belgium and Netherlands having scored 1709 and 1654 points respectively. India (1484 points) pushed Germany (1456 points) to sixth from the fifth spot. On the other hand, most of the teams in the top 20 have not moved from their spot barring Austria (18th place), Egypt (19th) and France (20th).

Most of the teams in the top 20 rankings were non-movers, although 18th placed Austria and 19th ranked Egypt have climbed ahead of France, who now sit in 20th position.
