Hockey India names 48 women's players for national camp ahead of FIH Champions Trophy

Hockey India has named 48 players for the senior women’s national camp to be held from May 28 to June 9, ahead of the Spain Tour and FIH Women's World Cup. The Indian team will regroup for the training camp under Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne to stay mentally and physically fresh ahead of the tour.

After ending their 5th women's Asian Champions Trophy campaign with a silver medal, Hockey India called for a national camp on Saturday, containing 48 players to be held at the Sports Authority of India, Bengaluru. The Indian team will undergo the training camp through the close eyes of Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne on Monday while the main motive will be to use this short preparatory camp that concludes to assess the performance and work on the shortcomings ahead of the Spain Tour that begins on June 10.

Talking about the camp the head coach noted down about the importance of this much-needed grouping and described how they have planned for an improvement on players side through this fixture.

“We will use this camp to further improve our fitness and evaluate the Asian Champions Trophy performance. We will also continue to work closely with the psychologist to improve the mental skills both individually and the team,” said Marijne. 

“The girls have played quite a lot of matches over the past two months and we need to be careful with their workload to ensure they are fresh mentally and physically."
