Former India hockey skipper Sardar Singh was named a member in the Standing Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) during the 38th General Assembly in Bangkok in early March. The panel, of which Sardar is a member of, will have 10 members and are nominated for four years from 2019 to 2023.

The OCA General Assembly was held in Bangkok on the first two days of March, following which India’s hockey legend Sardar Singh was inducted into the panel.

"As per the authority vested in me by the OCA Constitution and the OCA General Assembly, I have nominated the members of the OCA Standing Committees," OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said in a statement, reported PTI.

"I wish the Chair and the members of the OCA Standing Committees the very best of luck and look forward to cooperating with your good self in the coming 4 years to strengthen further," he added.

Debuting for the junior team back in 2003-04 in India’s tour of Poland, Sardar made an instant impact and took just three more years before his senior debut against Pakistan. He was named in the FIH All-Star team in both 2010 and 2011 and was one of India’s star in Asia Cup 2013. Sardar announced his retirement from the sport, after the Asian Games, despite India playing a World Cup on home turf a couple of months later.
