The Indian women’s hockey team played out a goalless draw against the hosts Great Britain in the third match of their Tour of England in Marlow, England on Tuesday. The visitors tried to make a few inroads as the match progressed, but they could not find an opening. The defensive units of both sides held their fort as none of the teams could break the deadlock. India won five penalty corners throughout the course of the game but could not convert any as Great Britain stood firm to earn their clean sheet.

Most of the first quarter included cautious play from both the teams until the Indian team made an aggressive move towards the end of the quarter and earned a penalty corner, but the Great Britain defence kept India at bay.

India rode on the momentum and continued playing aggressively at the start of the second quarter and earned another penalty corner in the 20th minute, which was again defended well by the Great Britain defence.

After India squandered another penalty corner in the third quarter, Great Britain was awarded their first penalty corner in the 35th minute from a counter-attack but Indian goalkeeper Savita stood up to the test. Three minutes later, India made another aggressive move and won its fourth penalty corner but they failed to hit the target yet again.

The same story continued in the fourth quarter with both sides trying to break the deadlock but to no avail. India had a brilliant chance to seal the match when they won a penalty corner in the dying minutes of the match, but once again Great Britain defence stood firm to thwart the danger

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team will face Great Britain again for their fourth match of the Tour on Wednesday, 2 October 2019 at 2000hrs IST.
