Gold for Bindra at Asian Air Gun Championship

India’s Abhinav Bindra struck gold in the 10m air rifle with a score of 208.8 points on the opening day of the Asian Air Gun Championship at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi.

The 2008 Olympic gold medallist beat back the challenge of compatriots Gagan Narang, the London Olympic bronze medallist, and Chain Singh, who finished fourth and sixth respectively. All three Indians have qualified for next year’s Rio Olympics.

Commonwealth medallist Apurvi Chandela will be in action on Monday. Other shooters in the fray include Vijay Kumar, Jitu Rai, Henna Sidhu and Ayonika Paul.
