Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu win Gold for India at Shooting World Cup
Indian shooters Heena Sidhu and Jitu Rai have secured the Gold medal for India at the ongoing Shooting World Cup in Gabala in the mixed team 10m Air Pistol (demo) event. The mixed team air pistol event is one of the new events that has been added to the shooting events for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Jitu, who trains at the Army Shooting Range in Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, and Heena, who trains under coach Ronak Pandit, shot superbly in the qualifying event to finish on the top of the standings with a combined score of 485 (Jitu 243, Heena 242). In the semi-finals, the India duo topped the rankings with a score of 240.7 followed by Russia on 239.8. In the final, Jitu and Heena were trailing the Russian pair 0-4 before making a strong comeback to clinch the gold with a 7-6 score line. The pair had also won gold in the same event at the ISSF World Cup held in New Delhi earlier this year.
OGQ has sent two of our physios Poornima Raman Ngomdir and Sumita Jain who have been travelling with the Indian shooting contingent for over a month including the world cups in Munich and Gabala. OGQ has supported Jitu and Heena with coaching, sports science, equipment support and pistol support.
