Indian shooter Heena Sidhu has continued her good form going into the Commonwealth Shooting Championships by clinching the gold medal in the women's 10m Air Pistol event Brisbane today. On the men's side, Deepak Kumar also got onto the podium with a bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle event.

Sidhu, who shot 240.8 in the final, edged out Australian Elena Galiabovitch, who scored 238.2, for the gold. There was another Australian on the podium though as Kristy Gillman shot a 213.7 to earn a bronze medal for herself.

But it wasn’t all good news for India as Gagan Narang could only manage to secure a fourth place in the same category, while Ravikumar ended in the fifth. Narang’s finish was even more disappointing owing to the fact that he shot a Commonwealth record 626.2 during qualification.

The gold for Sidhu is just a continuation of her great run in 2017 where she won the gold medal, alongside partner Jitu Rai, at the ISSF World Cup final in Delhi. She then went on to win the bronze medal at the Grand Prix of Liberation Plaza Shooting Championships in the women's 10 air pistol event.
