ISSF Shotgun World Cup | Kenan Chenai narrowly misses out on making finals

Indian shotgun shooter Kynan Chenai has failed to secure a spot in the finals of the ongoing ISSF Shotgun World Cup that is being held in Al Ain, UAE. A shoot-off heartbreak ended his run to make the Men’s Trap finals as Chenai ended with a creditable score of 122 out of 125 in qualifying.

However, due to a bundle of talent and high-quality shooters preset at the global event, Chenai found himself embroiled in a seven-man stand-off for a slot in the finals. The Hyderabad-shooter missed his eighth shoot-off target to finish seventh overall which enabled his Thai and Chinese opponents to bag the fifth and sixth final slots. Apart from Chenai, the two other Indian participants in the competition Prithviraj Tondaiman and Zoravar Singh Sandhu, finished 37th and 72nd with scores of 120 and 117 respectively.

Reigning Olympic Champion Josip Glasnovic of Croatia shot a perfect 125 to equal the world record and secure a spot in the final while Athens 2004 Olympic Champion Alexey Alipov of Russia was third to qualify with a score of 123.

In the next round, Josip secured won gold and as a result, was also assured the Tokyo 2020 Olympic quota place with a final round score of 47. He got the better of Thailand’s Savate Sresthaporn in another shoot-off 9-8.
