ISSF Junior World Cup | Elavenil Valarivalan defeats Mehuli Ghosh to win 10m air rifle gold

Elavenil Valarivan put in a stunning performance to outplay compatriot Mehuli Ghosh in the final of the women’s 10m air rifle event as India bagged gold and silver at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany. Valarivan shot 251.6 in the final to beat Ghosh by a narrow margin of 1.4 point on Monday.

The Indian shooting contingent are shaping up to be a force to reckon with as they continue to prove time and again that they are a class apart from their competitors at the moment. At the ongoing ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany, the Indian pair of Elavenil Valarivan and Mehuli Ghosh grabbed headlines due to their brilliant display in the final of the women’s 10m air rifle event on Monday.

Valarivan shot 251.6 in the final to beat qualification topper Ghosh (630.4) by a margin of 1.4 points. Earlier, she had qualified at the eighth place for the final from a strong group of 124 contenders. Ghosh had to settle for silver yesterday as France’s Oceanne Marianne Muller who lead during the final was pushed to the bronze medal spot.

In addition to individual brilliance, Valarivan and Ghosh along with Shreya Agrawal, who shot 625.4, clinched the team gold with a junior world record score of 1883.3, as India top the medals table with six gold, six silver and two bronze medals. Russia and Norway had two gold medals each, while China, Austria, Thailand and Germany had won one gold each.
