ISSF Shotgun World Cup | No Indian women qualify for Olympic quota

None among the Indian women were able to secure an Olympic qualification in the ISSF Shotgun World Cup at Acapulco in Mexico. Rashmmi Rathore was the best among women in the qualification round, followed by Maheshwari Chauhan and Simranpreet Kaur, whereas Kimberly Rhode clinched the gold medal.

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun World Cup 2019. which acts as a qualification tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics turned out to be a disappointing event for India, as none of the women was able to secure a quota for the quadrennial mega event.

Asian Shotgun Shooting competition Gold medallist Rashmmi Rathore shot 112 in qualification to finish as the best placed Indian at 23. She was followed Maheshwari Chauhan at 33 and Simranpreet Kaur at 48 who shot 109 and 97 respectively, stated the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) in a press release.

American legend Kimberly Rhode, who is a three-time Olympic Gold medallist and a two-time World Championship medallist shot 57 to comfortably win a Gold medal. New Zealander Chloe Tipple had to settle for the second position with a score of 48, and Chinese Donglian Zhang was placed third with a score of 42.

With respect to the men's event, Sheeraz Sheikh, with a score of 48 out of 50 was the best-placed Indian at 22, however, 14 among 95 had the same score. He was followed by Mairaj Ahmed Khan, who shot 44, and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, who shot 43 at 74th and 86th position, respectively. In total, four players scored a perfect 50 while 12 others scored 49.
