Football

#LetsFootball: NorthEast United FC continued their resurgence, edging past hosts Chennaiyin FC 2-1, thanks to goals from Kamara and Silas. Elano scored for the hosts.

NorthEast who started the tournament with 3 consecutive losses, are now in a great position with 13 points, just 2 points shy of leaders Goa.

WC 2018 Qualifiers: India (FIFA rank 172) face island country Guam (rank 155) today in the WC 2018 Qualifiers. 

The sides have had contrasting campaigns so far, with India still searching for an elusive first victory in what has been an abysmal campaign, and Guam having had an unexpectedly good run so far. Read our preview.

Shooting

India ended the Asian Shooting Championships with 17 Golds, 14 Silver and 13 Bronze. and finihed third, after South Korea and China. Olympic silver medalist Vijay Kumar helped India secure 2 medals on the final day, winning Bronze in individual and Silver in the team event of 25m Center Fire Pistol.

China Open has begun!

And has already ended for the Indian men! Srikanth (defending champion), Jayaram, & Prannoy all crashed out in the 1st Round.  5th consecutive 1st/2nd Rd exit for former World No. 3 Srikanth- he last made past the QFs at the Indian Open in March which he won. A worrying sign given this is Olympic year, and qualification is dependent on results from Jun ’15 – May ’16 and not earlier.

On the bright side, Saina and Sindhu both eased through the first round. Revenge time for Sindhu- she meets her French Open conqueror Shixian Wang today.

Jwala-Ponappa, however, lost (what’s new! 6th consecutive 1st/2nd Round exit), earning themselves adequate time for... (cue - check their twitter accounts).
