Welcome to the 5th issue of our exciting, informative & concise (300 word) newsletter on Indian sports. Monday is usually a relatively calm day with respect to sports action. However, BCCI ensured that it remained an action packed day.

U-17 Football World Cup to India

FIFA confirmed that the 2017 U-17 World Cup with be held in India and will officially hand it over to AIFF after the 16th edition underway at Chile on Sunday. A wonderful opportunity for Indian football! Let’s hope AIFF and the Sports Ministry don’t waste this!

Big match today in #LetsFootball after Monday's rest day. Last year’s finalists Kerala Blasters & Atletico de Kolkata face-off at Kochi tonight. Kerala are usually strong at home- one defeat in five home games! We are predicting a 1-0 win for Kerala, what about you?

BCCI on over-drive

President Shashank Manohar and the BCCI enacted wide set of refreshing reforms in the BCCI AGM yesterday, after having earlier promised to clean up the rot in the system.

Ravi Shastri, Roger Binny and Sourav Ganguly are out of key positions.  The big move, however, was BCCI’s withdrawal of support to N Srinivasan as ICC Chairman (But, let’s not write-off Srinivasan yet. Remember Jagmohan Dalmiya!)

The Board also doled out huge incentives to various ex-Ranji and International cricketers as a one-time payment for their services. A nice gesture, but one wonders what motives lurk behind!

Badminton- China Open starting today

China Open 2014, one could say, was a break-out tournament for Indian Badminton, with Srikanth Kidambi and Saina Nehwal being crowned the Men’s and Women’s Singles Champions, that too on Chinese soil last year! Chances of an encore this year are, however, low, read more.

Tennis

World No. 8 doubles pair of Bopanna-Mergea booked a spot at the year-ender ATP World Tour Finals yesterday that pits only the top 8 teams. Funnily, they had to pray for the other set of contenders to lose in the Paris Masters Final after crashing out in the QFs themselves.

Signing off until tomorrow!

New Zealand need 107 runs to win with ten wickets and a day in hand to seal an emphatic win in Indian soil. Sarfaraz Khan’s 150 coupled with Rishabh Pant’s 99 set up India’s 462 runs, albeit the second new ball did the trick for the Kiwis with the hosts losing the last seven wickets for 29 runs.
