Rio 2016 | China complete gold sweep in table tennis; USA dominate women's 100m hurdles on day 12

China's men's team defeated Japan 3-1 in the final of the team event to complete the full collection of gold medals in table tennis at the Rio Olympics. Meanwhile, three Americans stood on the podium in the women's 100m hurdles event, with Brianna Rollins winning the gold on Wednesday.

Kenya's Conseslus Kipruto created a new Olympic record after clocking 8:03.28 on his way to winning the gold medal in the final of the men's 3000m steeplechase event. Evan Jager's season best timing of 8:04.28 gave him a silver, while France's Mahiedine Mekhissi won the bronze.

Tianna Bartoletta of the United States leapt a personal best of 7.17m to win the women's long jump gold. Her American teammate and defending Olympic champion Brittney Reese took silver, while Serbia's Ivana Spanovic won the bronze.

Jamaica's Elaine Thompson won the gold in the women's 200m final with a time of 21.78 seconds. Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands won silver and American Tori Bowie had to settle for bronze.

Three Americans stood on the podium of the women's 100m hurdles event. Brianna Rollins clinched the gold medal after clocking 12.48, while Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin took the silver and bronze respectively.

Meanwhile, China completed their sweep of table tennis golds after their men's team beat Japan 3-1 in the final, 24-hours after their women's team won the gold by defeating Germany in the final. They had also won the gold and the silver medals in the men's and the women's individual events.

Usain Bolt and Andre de Grasse set up a showdown in the 200 metres final after crossing the line together in their semi-final. Bolt was once again at the top of the chart with a timing of 19.78, while de Grasse managed 19.80. But, 100m silver medallist Justin Gatlin and Jamaican Yohan Blake missed out on a spot in the final.

Earlier, a fall nearly cost Mo Farah the gold medal in the 10,000 metres race, but he recovered brilliantly in the end. On Wednesday, the Brit nearly took another tumble in the final bend of his 5000m qualifier, but he somehow managed to stay on his feet and qualify for the final, which will take place on Saturday. In the final, he will be looking to repeat his Olympic double from 2012.
