Dipa Karmakar : People used to ask me if gymnastics was related with circus

Dipa Karmakar, who became the first Indian female gymnast to compete in the Olympics, has revealed that people used to relate gymnastics with circus acts when she took up the sport all those years back. She, however, did end up introducing those people to what gymnastics really is in Rio.

"People used to ask me what is gymnastics, is it something to do with the circus? And when I made it to the Olympics, there was a lot of pressure to get a medal," Dipa Karmakar said at the NDTV Youth for Change programme.

"But I just forgot all of that and tried to give my best." the 23-year-old, who dazzled the Olympics with her Produnovas and a stunning 4 place finish, added.

Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik, who became the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal in the Games, was also present at the event, and she opened up about how her life has changed since returning from Rio.

"Life has definitely changed after the medal. I had gone alone and when I came back I found the whole country with me. Being made to feel very special," Sakshi said.
