Former cricketers term Anil Kumble's resignation as a huge loss for Indian cricket

Former England skipper Micheal Vaughan took to Twitter to express his disappointment at Kumble giving up the job.

He tweeted,"India are losing a Great man in @anilkumble1074 ... realty hope he stays in some role .... Far too good a bloke to lose ... #India,"

Former Indian spinner Bishan Singh Bedi, who had criticised BCCI's move of inviting fresh applications for the post and not extending Anil Kumble's contract earlier, lashed out at them once again when with a series of tweets.

Famous Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle named it, "the loss of an outstanding resource for Indian cricket".

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra felt that the situation could have been handled better if the coach selection process had taken place at the right time. He said,"It (the coach selection process) should have been done after the home season and not just before the Champions Trophy. It could have been handled better but that is how the cookie has crumbled,"

Under Kumble's leadership, India won an away Test series in West Indies(2-0) followed by successive wins against New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1- 0), and Australia (2-1) at home. Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar described it as a sad for Indian cricket while heaping praises on Kumble for a commendable job with the team.

"I have very little knowledge about the differences between Virat and Anil. But it is a really sad day for Indian cricket," Gavaskar told NDTV.

"India have won everything since the time Anil took over. I can't see Anil doing much wrong in one year. Difference happen in any team but see at the results," he added.

Kumble is known for his undeterred nature as he showcased while bowling against West Indies with a broken jaw, during which he managed to scalp the great Brian Lara's wicket. However, Jumbo not standing up for himself for the position of the coach is what surprised Gavaskar.

"Anil must have had his reasons (of resigning). I would have thought Anil would carry on. Once the CAC expressed their confidence in him, Anil should have stuck around. Hope he will take it on the chin and comes back stronger. But it is the first time a known fighter like Anil did not stand up," said the former captain.

"I know that the CAC met Virat and had a very long session with him," Gavaskar added.

"Anil's experience as a player and as an administrator needs to be utilised. CAC should be doing more for Indian cricket than just selecting the coach."

Gavaskar further suggested that the Indian team will need a coach before their away series against Sri Lanka.
