Para-powerlifter Sachin Chaudhary won the bronze medal in the men's heavyweight lifting final. It was India’s first medal from the para-athletic contingent and 21st overall at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

On a day when four Indian para-powerlifters reached finals, Sachin Chaudhary was the only one who went the distance in the 10-man final and ended with a combined effort of 181 points which helped him win the bronze. Nigeria’s Abdulazeez Ibrahim won the gold with 191.9 points and the silver went to Malaysia’s Yee Khie Jong who finished with 188.7 points.

In his first two attempts, Sachin failed while lifting 201 kg but in the final attempt he was successful in lifting 201 kg and hence finished in the top-three. This was India’s 21st medal at the Commonwealth Games this year.

Sachin Chaudhary won a silver medal at the Powerlifting World Cup in Dubai last year with a lift of 200 kg.
