Justice Mukul Mudgal was also the head of the investigation conducted by Supreme Court in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. Retired as Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mudgal has been selected by the Sports Ministry, although the official announcement is yet to be made.

“The meeting will take place on September 16 in Delhi,” a source told PTI.

Along with former air pistol shooter Samresh Jung and Indian badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa, former Indian boxing coach GS Sandhu, Indian hockey coach AK Bansal, archery coach of India, Sanjeeva Singh, Special Director General of SAI, Onkar Kedia and joint secretary Inder Dhamija will also form a part of the selection committee. Target Olympic Podium Scheme CEO, Commander Rajesh Rajagopalan and two other sports journalists will also be on the committee.

As for the awards, Dronacharya award is given to coaches, who have performed constantly during the time interval of four years. The Dhyan Chand award is given for the overall achievements that have been acquired by a sports person, during and after their career.

To avoid clashes with the Asian Games, which ended on September 2, the National Sports Award Ceremony will be held on September 25, in lieu of August 29, which is the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
