Squash champ Ravi Dixit apologises for offering to sell kidney
Indian squash player Ravi Dixit, who offered to sell his kidney on social media on Sunday citing lack of sponsors, apologised for his action on Tuesday through a letter written to the President of the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI).
The 2010 Asian junior championship Gold medallist offered his kidney for sale on social media for Rs.8 Lakhs to fund his campaign for the upcoming South Asian Games in Guwahati and Shillong. Dixit’s post triggered outrage on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter and also garnered headlines in Mainstream media.
The 23-year old apologised to his family and the various organisations that have supported him by saying that the Facebook post (now deleted) was in the ‘spur of the moment.’
“I was feeling really low and that is why I posted that (deleted now). I realise it was not the right thing to do. I will continue looking for sponsors,” he said, reported The Hindu.
The President of SRFI, Debendranath Sarangi said that Dixit has been training at the Indian Squash Academy (ISA) for last nine years, and he has been given financial assistance by the ISA and SRFI, reported The Hindu.
