Brett Clarke and Yen Wei have refused the offer of appointment for the post of coach for the junior national team and Coal India National Academy respectively due to their contracts with other federations. The secretary of TTFI MP Singh has confirmed the news after receiving respective emails.

The Sports Authority Of India, on Friday, had confirmed the appointment of Australia’s Brett Clarke as chief coach for the junior table tennis team and China’s Yin Wei as the coach for the upcoming Coal India-SAI National TT Academy in Kolkata. However, as per a TOI report, both the veteran coaches have refused to come as they have found jobs with the federations of some other countries, as informed by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) secretary - MP Singh.

As stated by Singh, both Clarke and Wei informed about their decision to the TTFI through separate emails on Friday evening, the same day when SAI broke the news about their respective appointments.

“As per my phone discussion with Mr (former TTFI secretary general Dhanraj) Chaudhary (who represents Asia as a director in the International Table Tennis Federation), I am no longer available for the coaching position in India. I have been waiting for my contract for the last six months. I left many contracts in that time. It’s time to move on and start working. I understand both of you (Chaudhary and Singh) have good intentions but let me make this resignation final,” read Clarke’s mail.

Wei has also sent a similar mail to the TTFI secretary expressing his inability to take up the coaching position at the proposed SAI Academy due to delay in offering him the contract.

“The SAI never communicated the terms and conditions to them despite the two waiting for their contracts to arrive. On Friday, we received these mails from them. Now, the process has to start all over again. It will consume some time,” MP Singh told TOI.
