The trio of Sharath Kamal, G Sathiyan and Manika Batra will be leading the Indian charge at the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships which will be played this week. The international tournament will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack from Wednesday.

The Indian contingent is gearing up for a challenging outing on home soil in the upcoming Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in Delhi. The Indian contingent will be led by Achanta Sharath Kamal who aims to lay their hands on the Home Association’s Cup in the men’s section at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack from Wednesday.

Since his gold-winning performance in 2006 Commonwealth Games at Melbourne, Kamal has been the focal point in any Indian outing in international competitions. The veteran will be joined by India’s top-ranked player G Sathiyan. The men’s squad will also consist of Anthony Amalraj, Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar.

Meanwhile, the women’s team will be led by the young and talented Manika Batra, who is the lone Indian in the top-100 of the world. She will play alongside the likes of Madhurika Patkar, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Archana Kamath and Ayhika Mukherjee

The individual events begin on the third day after the team finals with group qualifying matches and it is to be seen whether one of the Indians could end up with the Singapore Cup (men singles) and Oceania Cup (women singles).
