ITTF Junior Circuit Premium Open | Young India paddlers win seven medals

The Indian paddlers won a total of seven medals including three medals in the junior events and four in the cadets at the ITTF Junior Circuit Premium Oman Open in Muscat on Saturday. Indian cadet girls team of Kavyashree Baskarand and Nilisma Sarkar defeated Chinese Taipei to grab the gold medal.

Indian cadet girls team, comprising of Kavyashree Baskarand and Nilisma Sarkar, defeated Chinese Taipei 3-1 to grab the gold medal in the ITTF Junior Circuit Premium Oman Open in Muscat on Saturday.

In the first singles, Kavyashree beat Cheng Pu-Syuan 8-11 1-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 before Nilisma lost 11-9, 4-11, 11-9, 11-13, 4-11 to Liang yuan-Ting in the second match. The Indian duo then went on to beat the Chinese Taipei duo in straight sets and similar scores of 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 in the doubles tie to gain the upper hand. Kavyashree sealed the opposition's fate in the reverse singles against Liang, winning it 11-2, 11-7, 5-11, 11-7 to finish on top of the podium.

The Indian paddlers ended the day with a total of three medals in the junior events while the cadets bagged four. The B team in the girls' cadet won the bronze medal after registering victories against Greece, England, and Sri Lanka and losing to India A and Chinese Taipei.

The Indian cadet boys teams also added to the tally by winning two bronze medals after they failed to go past the semi-final hurdle, as the A team lost to Chinese Taipei and B team went down to Russia.

In the junior girls' event, both the Indian teams won the silver and bronze medals as they finished numbers two and three in the group standings. While, in the junior boy's category, one of the two Indian teams settled for bronze when it lost 1-3 to Iran in the semi-finals.
