Hours after winning the Australian Open women's doubles title with Martina Hingis, Sania Mirza was back on court to play in the mixed doubles semi-final. The No.1 seeded team of Mirza and Ivan Dodig lost to fifth-seeded Elena Vesnina and Bruno Soares 5-7, 6-7 on Friday.

It seemed like Mirza was struggling with fatigue, after playing a tightly-fought match just an hour before this game. Soares and Vesnina produced 38 winners in the match which lasted 90 minutes. They broke Mirza and Hingis' serve twice in the first set to win it 7-5, while the second set went into a tie-breaker, which Vesnina-Soares won 7-4, after both the pairs exchanged a break each.

Mirza has a long history with both Vesnina and Soares, having partnered them both in different stages of her doubles career. Vesnina was Mirza's partner, when she reached her first-ever Grand Slam final in the 2009 French Open, where they lost to Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka – the pair which Mirza and Hingis defeated earlier today in the final of the women's doubles. Mirza also defeated Vesnina in the women's doubles final of the Wimbledon last year.

On the other hand, Bruno Soares and Sania Mirza had won the US Open mixed doubles title back in 2014.
